Job Advertisement: Chief Economist and Joint Chief Economist Positions

Planning and Development Department, Government of Sindh

1. Chief Economist (MP Scale-1)

Number of Positions: 1

Required Qualifications/Experience:

  • Ph.D. in Economics from an HEC-recognized university with eight years of professional experience in handling planning, analysis, and data for projects/programs.
  • Experience working with the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and donor agencies is an additional qualification.
  • Alternatively, a Master’s degree in Economics from an HEC-recognized university with twelve years of experience in handling planning, analysis, and data for projects/programs. Experience with World Bank, ADB, and donor agencies is an added advantage.

Job Description:

  • Prepare and analyze recommendations on important economic policies and programs.
  • Analyze and handle data received from donor agencies, including economic assessments and evaluations.
  • Identify issues and delays in project implementation and propose specific solutions.
  • Assist administrative departments in acquiring foreign assistance through the Economic Affairs Division.
  • Coordinate with Economic Affairs Division regarding foreign training and study tours.
  • Act as a liaison and catalyst in all development activities within the province.
  • Attend CDWP/ECNEC meetings in Islamabad on behalf of the Chairman of the P&DD Board.
  • Participate in special assignments given by the Chairman, P&DD Board, and Chief Economist.
  • Supervise the following section: Foreign Aid.

2. Joint Chief Economist (SMP Scale-11)

Number of Positions: 1

Required Qualifications/Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Economics from an HEC-recognized university with ten years of experience in handling planning, analysis, and data for projects/programs.
  • Experience working with the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and donor agencies is an additional qualification.

Job Description:

  • Assist the Chief Economist, P&DD.
  • Analyze economic policies and programs.
  • Handle data from donor agencies and support economic assessments and evaluations.
  • Identify issues and delays in project implementation and propose solutions.
  • Assist in acquiring foreign assistance through the Economic Affairs Division.
  • Coordinate with Economic Affairs Division regarding foreign training and study tours.
  • Act as a liaison and catalyst in all development activities within the province.
  • Attend CDWP/ECNEC meetings in Islamabad on behalf of the Chairman of the P&DD Board.

General Requirements:

  • Applicants should not be over 62 years of age as of the application deadline.
  • The selected candidates will be offered a competitive salary package according to the Sindh Management Position Scales (SMPs) Policy 2022.
  • The initial contract will be for two years, extendable based on performance and recommendations by the department head, subject to approval by the Chief Minister of Sindh.
